Windham M. Frye

Windham (Bill) M. Frye was murdered in Knoxville, Tennesee on January 26, 1990 when his business was robbed. The two teenage offenders shot him in the face with a shotgun, after an argument over cigarettes. They were finally arrested 6 years later and convicted in 1998. The shooter is still incarcerated, and his accomplice has been released.

Bill Frye’s wife Jean Frye passed away in July 2017. Bill is survived by a son and four daughters. Dan Frye, active with NOVJM, and sisters Sheila Cruz, Christie Troglen, Lisa Frye, and Michelle Spray. Four grandchildren also carry on Bill’s memory.

Bill was a successful small business owner, and a World War II veteran, a deep sea diver in the Navy. He was well known in Knoxville for the quality of his deli, and over a thousand people came to the funeral home to pay their respects after his murder.
